WHAT ARE THE KEY ELEMENTS OF THE AP SPANISH LITERATURE AND CULTURE EXAM?

  • The exam includes a multiple-choice section and a free-response section. Each section contributes 50% of the total exam score.

  • The multiple-choice section contains 65 questions based on a source materials and is divided into two parts. The first part contains 15 questions based on audio sources and assesses student performance in interpretive listening. Students listen to three different audio sources: an interview, a poem, and a presentation on a literary topic, and answer questions about each one. Time is provided for students to preview the questions before listening, and they may take notes as they listen. Students hear the poem twice. The second part includes 50 questions based on a variety of literary texts and assesses student performance in reading analysis.

  • There are four free-response tasks, which are: two short answer tasks (a text explanation and a text and art comparison) and two essay tasks (the analysis of a single text from the required reading list and a comparison of two texts – one from the required list and one that is not).

  • Students are expected to demonstrate that they understand and can explain the literary, historical, sociocultural, and geopolitical contexts of texts on the reading lists as they analyze these literary works.
